We enter life and are given a name, this is bound to our identity, we are known by this name. Throughout this life our name is equated with our nature.
In Christ we are called to follow Him, to walk as He walked, and to learn as He learned. Just as Jesus learned obedience, and overcame, thus He is given a name above all names. We too are called to become overcomers. To walk in His grace and to yield to our Lords will.
“For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9~11
As His followers we are to “go and do likewise” to submit our will to our Fathers will, and through His grace overcome all that is set against us, which is our old Adamic nature. In doing so we will be given a new name, that reflects the nature of Christ.
“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.” Revelation 3:12
