The Lord and the Law

The Lord and The Law are One

It is essential to see that as Israel sojourned from Egypt to the Land of Promise they were introduced to the Lord as Jehovah and His law. The two are so intertwined that there is no difference, and it was through the law that the Lord revealed Himself.  We must have our hearts open before the Lord to see that the Spirit of the Law expresses His nature.

Joshua 1
1  Now it came about after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying,

2  “Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel.

3  “Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.

4  “From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory.

5  “No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.

6  “Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

In verse seven we hear the Word speak, to “be careful to do according to all the law”
7  “Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.

“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

9  “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua was given deep insight into how he was to proceed, and from this we can see how the Lord and the law were ever present, and this was his source of strength, and courage. These lessons are clearly for our day, although we see this with the lens of the New Covenant the Spirit of law, the words to Joshua are for us to apply in our relationship in the Lord.

Grace and the law seem to be polar opposites, yet nothing could be further from the Truth, for it is grace that enables us to see and keep the law. This is all in and through the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 5
17  “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

18  “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

:19  “Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

:20  “For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

In the grace of our Lord we can see the beauty of the Law, for the Law and the Law giver are one in the same, the same nature. It is in Him we have the ability to ‘go and do likewise” and that is to walk in the law, as we become intertwined in the Lord, walking with Him through each day we find that He enables us to accomplish His will.

“For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

What we find is the letter of the law is indeed deadly, this is due to the means we strive to apply the law, the Pharisees were severely addressed for their hypocrisy, for they were addressing the law from a spirit that is fallen, and were not able to practice what they preached. This is why the letter of the law kills; it lacks the intent, or Spirit that is only found in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

James 1
21  Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

22  But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

23  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;

24  for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

25  But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Verse 25 indicates we must look intently, this is the searching out the wisdom of the Lord, all with an open heart before Him, and leaning into His understanding.

There is a tendency for us to “throw the baby out with the bathwater” when it comes to looking into the law, and many will say we are under grace and not the law, and this is correct, yet there is more to see here than meets the eye.

“It is legalistic and pharisaical WHEN we try to keep the law/words apart from the spirit…in our own strength…so sadly the world then throws out the baby with the bathwater and says we are under no obligation to keep the law….(which in a way is true) but only IF we understand that we couldn’t and we see why we need the Spirit of Truth who watches over his Word of words to perform them.. they only have power if the WORD has filled them..and that is the WORD, He watches over the Spirit in them..”

As we awaken to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, we see plainly and clearly He is the Lord, and it makes no difference what we think, perceive, or have been taught He and the Law are one in the same, no distinction, variation, or separation. He came to fulfill the Law, and provide us with the ability through grace to have this experienced and appropriated within us.  All in the Spirit of Truth.

Just as the Law was given to Israel as the sojourned out of Egypt, and on to posses the Promise Land, we today are to embrace the Law from it’s Spiritual intent, this is as Paul stated;

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5

Paul’s advice is sound, may we have ears to hear what the Spirit is revealing to us through the Living Word.

2 Corinthians 3
4  Such confidence we have through Christ toward God.

5  Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,

6  who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

7  But if the ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was,

8  how will the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory?

9  For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness abound in glory.

10  For indeed what had glory, in this case has no glory because of the glory that surpasses it.

11  For if that which fades away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.

12  Therefore having such a hope, we use great boldness in our speech,

13  and are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel would not look intently at the end of what was fading away.

14  But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ.

15  But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart;

16  but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

17  Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

18  But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.
    Deuteronomy 29:29

    Law according to Strongs

    H3384
    ירא ירה
    yârâh yârâ’
    yaw-raw’, yaw-raw’
A primitive root; properly to flow as water (that is, to rain); transitively to lay or throw (especially an arrow, that is, to shoot); figuratively to point out (as if by aiming the finger), to teach: – (+) archer, cast, direct, inform, instruct, lay, shew, shoot, teach (-er, -ing), through.

The law is to flow like water, to wash, clean, revive, quench and flow from us as Living Water, also the former and latter rain
pondering the law as water, teacher, and as an arrow.
