Mary and Martha

02 Jan

It shall not be taken from her…

The story of Mary and Martha has more than one meaning, yet there is indeed something for us to see in Mary’s position that is deeply beautiful.

Mary’s heart was contemplative, she was graced by the presence of her friend Jesus, there were many times at Bethany where she listened intently to his words, as this transpired see began to see beyond Jesus, she began to see Christ and in this she awakened to Life.

Martha was privy to the same environment, yet her heart was different than her sisters, she knew Jesus, and was honored to be in his company, her response was activity.

What is noteworthy in the story is Martha was busy with earthly things while Mary sat intently listening with her heart, she was abiding in the Life expressed in his words.

Martha sought Jesus to correct her sister for there was work to accomplish, Mary didn’t respond, her heart was seeing beyond the Jesus, beyond his language or voice she was listening in Spirit and Truth. Jesus responded to Martha, he didn’t say she was wrong, but what he did say about Mary is vital.

“My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!

There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Blessings
